The dunkers.741.com Interview with Wayne Clark.

We recently interviewed Wayne Clark Above and Beyond. He broke two world records in his career and smashed a few backbords. His work is outstanding. And I personally thank him for his time and effort.

Q1.What city did you grow up in?

A1.I grew up in Trenton New Jersey.

Q2.Will you be looking into a NBA career or will you be joining a dunking crew (besides Team Flight Brothers)

A2. I am always looking into an NBA career!  I have a workout with the Boston Celtics this month to determine if I go to training camp in October. I am 30 now, so its a bit challenging but nothing is impossible. I have played in Europe for a total of 6 1/2 years, (Italy, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Romania, Turkey, Cyprus, Slovakia) and here in the USA, the IBL Cedar Valley Jaguars last year before City Slam, and now this season in the ABA with the Montreal Royals. I believe I will sign with that team next week! As far as joining a dunking crew, well that remains to be seen. I am a professional first before anything. Streetball and freestyle dunking are hobbies I do on the side for fun and of course money too! :) I have had some offers already, the New Slam Nation, which is supposed to be now called The Ultimate Gliders out of Vernon France. I talked to the owner back in the summer about possibly joining his crew of Elite world class dunkers. So we will see.

Q3.Are you attempting any new dunks or trying to set a new world record?

A3. Yes! As a matter of fact I am in the process of attempting a new and impossible dunk. Now the dunk game has gotten so superior and competitive, that it has become a sport. Alot of clowns out there running their mouths talking trash and aren't even in my league or considered one of the 4 elite dunkers in the world like myself, Mr. 720, James White, or Zani from France. I mean for example there is a real dumb a-- on this weak DVD called Street Handles out of Pheonix Arizona. I mean don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the guys on there, but they got one jerk they can do without, and he won't get a name or get famous off of me mentioning his name on here or any place else. He had my name all in his mouth on his DVD, trying to get on. All I can say at this time is my new Dunk is called "the Revolutions" We call it that because it will end all and every dunk game. No dunk in the world can top it, its 2 dunks in one, 2 phases, and its impossible to do, a high degree of difficulty. Thats all I can speak on at this time about it. Maybe at World Slam 08, or another venue to come I will feature this dunk. That is wh yI respect Mr. 720, and James White and Zani because we all bring something unique and different to the dunk game, and more importantly unlike these new kids coming out, WE DON"T STEAL DUNKS. They need to be copy rights for dunks, alot of dunkers would be out of the game, done!! The under the leg dunk is worn out.

Q4.How does it feel to break two world records?

A4. Well, it wasn't easy let me tell you. The 2 records I have taken took alot out of me. Actually jumping at 12 foot 1 inch is like trying to touch a Mc Donald's sign, like the ones diplayed out front of Mc Donald's. Man its really high. It ain't no joke. The other record of course is my 70 inches, I think I can get about 74. That is another reason why we choose a new name. I am now the artist formerly known as "Above & Beyond" first because of trademark reasons, the name is owned some place else, and the new name is  B-70 like the air craft. Google it and you will see what I am talking about, it also stands for Beyond 70 which is the goal we will reach at the next big slam dunk event im in!

Q5.How high is your vertical jump, and what type(s) of training did you do?

A5. Honest to GOD man, I never did anything for my hops. This is a natural gift from yours truly from up above. Nopw because I am 30, I do things to stay inshape, tune ups just like a car, doing the little things to keep it going for as long as possible. As far as my vertical jump, lasy measured in 1998 in the CBA Grand Rapid Hoops Veteran camp on the vert mat, it was measured at 49.9, rounded off to 50 inches I guess.

Q6.What dunker was a big influence for you growing up?

A6. My favorite dunker of influence is of course all time Micheal Jordan without a doubt. Now in my era it is Vince Carter. We both are the same age and graduated the same year from HighSchool. So i have always been compared to him my whole life. I like that because it brings out the best in me in all my competitions.

Q7.When was your first dunk? (age and grade) What kind of dunk? (Two hand, One hand, etc.)

A7. My first dunk was in the 7th grade after school. First with a tennis ball, then 2nd with a volley ball, then 3rd a 1 handed dunk with a regulation ball off of one leg.

A8.What motivated you, to break two world records?

Q8. I think what had motivated me to break the 2 records was that I knew and still know I am the best. But in order to gain respect and momentum, and be considered the best by the experts & critics, you have to do something that has never been done before on a grand scale in a big venue. I knew If I could break these world records, that would put me right where I needed to be in this dunk game, and it did.

A9.What is your favorite dunk?

Q9. My favorite part of basketball was probably the dunk. Now that I am older, and I compete as a professional, I like the Michael Jordan fade away :)!!!

Q10.How long have you been playing basketball?

A10. Honestly, I been playing basketball since the 3rd grade!!

Q11.What would you say to everyone out there that wants to dunk like you?

A11. I would tell everyone that its all in the mind. If you can vision it, you can do whatever you put your mind to!

Q12. Did they make you pay for those backboards you smashed dunking?

A12. LOL!!! Lucky for my, the four backboards im responsible for, "NO" I didn't have to pay for them. But I was told not to come back though :)!!

I want to add that there should be a law about the dunk game. If dunkers would stop using the same dunks over and over, and show some originality, the game would get better. There are to many copy cats out there. The under the legs dunk is played and worn out. There should be a law to copyright or trademark dunks. Man alot of these young clowns would be out of the game, just like that! Get your game up, stop hatin', show some class and originality, make the dunk game better.  Respect and shot out to the NDAA Dunk TV, Bucharest Romania, my family the Clarks & Kelley's on the east coast, Trenton New Jersey.

One. Thanx to Dunkers23 for the time, and the support!

B-70.
